Filter to specific populations:
How to Use This Household Records Dashboard
Data Overview:
- This dashboard analyzes individual household records from the Census
- Each record represents one person with their characteristics
- Use weights to get population estimates, or unweighted for raw counts
Geographic Filtering:
- Filter by specific Austin-area locations instead of PUMA codes
- Filter by Counties to focus on specific regions
- Leave blank to analyze all areas in the dataset
- You can also analyze Location and County as variables in the table
Demographic Filtering:
- Check 'Parents with Children 0-12 Only' to focus on adults with young children
- Check 'Undergraduates Only' to focus on students attending undergraduate programs
- Check 'Not Enrolled in College Only' to focus on people not currently in college
Variable Selection & Pivot Analysis:
- Check variables to include in your summary table
- Use preset buttons: Education, Parent, or All variables
- Pivot Mode: Select a 'Group By Variable' to create cross-tabulation
- Example: Group by 'Has Child 0-12' to see how many employed people have children vs. don't
- Pivot tables show separate columns for each group (TRUE/FALSE)
- NEW: Use column display toggles to show/hide specific columns in pivot mode
Weighting:
- Adult Adjusted Weight: Modified weights for adult analysis
- Person Weight (PERWT): Standard Census person weights
- Unweighted Count: Raw number of records in your sample
Table Features:
- Column Width: Drag column borders to manually adjust column widths
- Sorting: Click column headers to sort; Column Totals remain fixed at bottom
- Column Visibility: In pivot mode, use checkboxes to show/hide specific columns
